Return to Eire w/Houli & Friends

Return to Ireland with Houli & Friends!

By

Mike Houlihan

I’ve been lucky enough to visit Ireland many times. I’ll be making my tenth trip later this month. I sure hope it’s not my last trip, but at my age you never know. I could have a grabber and drop-dead tomorrow! I hope Our Lord holds off until I return though, because I don’t want to miss this one.

This one is special. We’ll be celebrating Halloween where Halloween was invented. No costumes required!

We’re leaving Chicago on a Wednesday and arrive in Dublin in the wee hours of the morning, where our guide/seanachie takes us directly to The Fitzpatrick Castle in Killiney, just outside Dublin. We’ll be joined there by International Irish fiddler from Gaelic Storm, the one and only Katie Grennan, who will perform her delightful music with us in the pubs and all along the way with us for the rest of the trip.

Next day we hop on the coach with our private driver/guide/storyteller, and we’re taken to Galway, city of tribes, where we will spend the next three nights hitting the pubs and celebrating Macnas, the fabled Irish pre-Halloween street fest celebrating the Mardi Gras atmosphere and phantasmagorical creatures, dancers, musicians, and gigantic puppets in the street.

Then we travel to County Mayo for the Irish premiere of IN SEARCH OF WEEPING JIM, my latest film that claims the Chicago flag for the Irish Diaspora as we celebrate the life of the late Irish born Alderman Jim Kearns, “the father of the Chicago flag”! We’ll meet the film’s cast of characters from the tiny island of Inishcuttle in Clew Bay and party into the night at Mstt Molloy’s pub in Westport!

We return to Fitzpatrick Castle the next day and leisurely unwind as we get ready for our triumphant return to Chicago the next morning. We have a small but mighty group of characters already booked to join us in addition to Katie and myself, and they will keep you laughing all along the way as we once again rediscover the beauty of Ireland, our preview of Heaven!

Does that sound like fun? Then join us, but you must act this week! See our ad in this issue and call the lovely Deirdre Kiely of Specialized travel to book your trip at
