Jeff Lange returns!

Fox’s Pizza, Guinness, the Cork and Kerry Irish Pub, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour as we continue on our First Responders Tour at The Cork and Kerry Pub on Western Avenue and this week we welcome back our old pal and local legend, Jeff Lange, Jeff is a retired 30-year veteran of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police and is Vice-President of The Emerald Society. He was born and raised in Bridgeport where he still lives with his wife Cathleen who is also a retired cop. Jeff started out as the bouncer at Shenanigans in the early ‘80’s and eventually began his career at Cook County Jail before going to work for the Sheriff’s police. He has a plethora of work stories that we haven’t yet heard even though this is his 8th appearance on Hibernian Radio. He begins by sharing the story of a brutal stabbing of a young college student, how preserved DNA helped the case and how that particular case was linked to actor, Ashton Kutcher. These two discuss the danger of Fentanyl and Houli shares a story about an acquaintance who traveled to Colombia to hire drug mules. Jeff then dives into his time with the Metropolitan Enforcement Group, a task force that works in undercover narcotics. He has many stories from those days to share about buying drugs undercover and one particularly interesting story where they found grenades while storming a drug house as well as another funny story about going undercover with a drug dealer in a lovely new truck.

Some of the other stories Jeff shares are about local twins who were associated with El Chapo as well as riding in the back of a police car during a trip to Ireland in 2015. He had travelled to Ireland with The Pipes & Drums of the Emerald Society along with 120 others and ended up in a Garda car in Limerick. Dealing with informants, their importance to the cops and his fondness for Ireland are just some of the other topics covered on this week’s show. Jeff then fills us in on this year’s Ribfest! It takes place on Monday, June 13 starting at 7pm at the FOP – 1412 W. Washington. Ribs, whiskey tastings and The Larkin & Moran Brothers and more for just $20! Jeff also mentions their Annual Dinner Dance on Saturday, October 1st at Gaelic Park where Irishman of the Year will be crowned. These two pals reminisce about last year’s Irishman of the Year Award night when they both had their fill of whiskey by the sounds of it! When asked about his take on the ongoing social unrest between the police and the surrounding communities, Jeff says “Being the police is a hands-on job..” and he doesn’t hesitate to express his dislike for Lori Lightfoot aka: “The bold-faced liar”. It’s always a great time when we have this legend on the show and we’ll be sure o have him back in the near future! Houli then brings us up to date on some more upcoming events followed by the obituaries. We end another great show this week with a very quick trip to “Houli-Town”.
