Amelia Carnana, Aileen Godley and Liam Godley

Fox’s Pizza, Guinness, Big Corner Tavern, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour as we return to our First Responders Tour at our new recording location, Big Corner Tavern, and this week Paddy hosts a special live music show with three local Irish musicians – Liam Godley, Aileen Godley and Amelia Carnana. We’ve hosted these guys on ‘The Craic’ podcast before and we’re delighted to have them here on Hibernian Radio for the first time. Liam sings and plays the bodhran, Aileen plays the fiddle and Amelia plays the banjo. Liam begins by explaining how he and his sister Aileen got into Irish music mainly because their grandfather, who was a singer from County Kerry, wanted to ensure they were brought up playing music. These Irish twins both began playing music around 8 years old and they discuss Chicago’s bustling Irish music community. Liam is graduating from EMT school this week and his end goal is to become a Firefighter. He delves into some of the incredible experiences he has had already including some ride alongs and he chats briefly about working as production crew on some local Chicago shows. Aileen is working on becoming an Electrician and wants to be a part of Local 134. She explains to Paddy how she first got into that particular line of work via an internship posted online. Then Amelia dives into discussing how she got into playing Irish music. Along with playing the banjo, she also plays the guitar and mandolin and will begin her orientation at UIC in the coming days. Then we head over to some live music from the trio with a couple of jigs to start off followed by some livelier reels – “Pigeon On The Gate” and “Mountain Road”. These three pals share some of the best pubs for live Irish music sessions around the city and Liam treats us with a final vocal solo singing “Willie Taylor” while accompanying himself on bodhran. Thanks to these incredibly talented musicians for entertaining our listeners on this week’s special musical show! We then head over to a favorite tune of ours here at Hibernian Radio with Eimear Arkins’ rendition of “The Darling Girl From Clare”. Eimear will be back on Houli’s annual trip to Ireland this year from October 23rd to 30th. Paddy brings us up to date on the recent obituaries followed by a long-awaited return to our favorite place known as “Houli-Town”.
