Hibernian Radio

Podcast, Episode 12, Sat. March 23, 2019

McCann’s Irish Oatmeal and Mike Haggerty Buick/GMC/Volkswagen present Hibernian Radio and it’s a jam packed show as we shake the tail end of St. Patrick’s Day. 17-year-old Bronagh Townsend and her mother Moya, join us to promote the upcoming Midwest Fleadh Cheoil April 26-28 hosted by our good friend Kell Chole and the Murphy Roche Irish Music Club. Moya is a two-time All-Ireland fiddling champion and Bronagh is also an All-Ireland finalist on accordion and harp and they dedicate their first number, “A Walk in Belfast” to their friend Tommy McGoldrick. Then Joanie Madden of Cherish The Ladies calls in to talk up their  Sunday concert at the Old Town School of  Folk Music celebrating the rollout of their new album “Heart of the Home”. And we play a very peppy cut from the album, “The Eel in the Sink”. Then we hear from the Cork Delegation from Ireland who were in town last week for the parades and we chat with some of the Irish First Responders, as well as County Cork Councilor John Paul O’Shea, 32 year veteran Shannon Rover Tom Conway, Lizzie McNeill’s proprietor and force behind the Cork/Cook Sister Counties organization, celebrating 20 years) John Wrenn. Then it’s back to the show and “Who Died” with 11 eleven obits, including our friend and another stalwart of the Cork/Cook organization, the late Bill Gainer. Moya and Bronagh perform a couple more tunes and then The Saw Doctors play us out with “To Win Just Once”. Whew!
